Bookends presented to Dr. Stone commemorating a lecture before the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The annual lecture series named for American physicist and inventor Joseph Henry (1797-1878) has been among the most prestigious in America. Henry was the first secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and President of the National Academy of Sciences.
Acquired from the Pasadena estate of NASA astrophysicist Dr. Edward Stone, an American space physicist, professor of physics at the California Institute of Technology, and director of the NASAJet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) from 1991 to 2001. He was the project scientist for the Voyager program, which sent two spacecraft to the outer Solar System's giant planets and the first spacecraft to enter interstellar space.
