Vase with horse motif by Polia Pillin (1901-1981), whose unusual and highly prized pieces feature mid-century motifs, including images of women, horses, cats, fish, and other animals, painted onto hand-thrown pottery such as pots, vases, plates, bowls, etc. She produced most of her work from her home studio, called the Pillin Art Pottery Company, which was set up in the family's garage in Los Angeles. In the 1940s and 50s Pollin Pottery was exhibited at prestigious museums and galleries including the San Francisco Art Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Willow Gallery in Grenwich Village New York.
Please note - this vase has a chip and repair (see photo) but displays beautifully.
