From the incredible Stephen J. Cannell estate collection of rare post-WWII and mid-century pottery.  The design of this stoneware pottery salad or dessert plate is from the Glidden Pottery Menagerie series of whimsical animal dishes that were designed by the Belgian-American designer, Ernest Sohn, in the 1950's in New York.  Each plate is glazed in white and features a different barn or wild animal glazed in yellows, gray, red, and green. The back side of each plate is not glazed and is hand incised with "Glidden", along with the piece number, "65". The plates each measure approximately 7 inches square and 3/4 inch deep.

Glidden Pottery, established by Glidden Parker produced unique stoneware, dinnerware and artware in Alfred, New York from 1940 to 1957. The pottery was found in homes, hotels, fine restaurants, and even on popular TV shows in the 1950s.
Glidden pottery was the choice of interior designers, art collectors, and even Hollywood actors and actresses. Lucille Ball was fond of Glidden pottery and adorned her California home and her “I Love Lucy” set apartment with Glidden pieces, including platters to ashtrays.
